Phantom improves the stepped plate drill in three respects

Phantom has updated the HSS stepped plate drill bit in three key areas, making it drill even smoother, reducing operator strain and improving the accuracy and roundness of drilled holes. The updated drill has recently been launched under the name Ergo-Step and is available in both straight and spiralised versions.

Ergonomic in use

The Phantom Ergo-Step eliminates palpable impact when drilling through to the next step. This is due to the unique radius in the 45-degree transitions, providing an exceptionally smooth drilling experience. To offer the best performance for every application, you have a choice between a spiralised geometry and a version with straight chip chambers. The latter gives you superior control, making it easier and more accurate to stop at the desired diameter.

Smoother and better controlled

Thanks to the radius, the Ergo-Step drill bit 'glides' smoothly from one diameter to another. As a result, drilling is smoother and more controlled. The operator notices this difference immediately. Moreover, this design reduces the risk of breaking out of the cutting edge, which significantly increases the tool life of the drill. This virtually eliminates the risk of damaging the workpiece.

New tip geometry and coatings

Phantom has equipped the Ergo-Step with a special tip geometry, making it easier to penetrate the material at the start of drilling. The modified clearance in the tool ensures improved roundness of drilled holes. For universal applications, the drill is available with a TiN coating, which ensures longer tool life and less friction. For machining harder materials, there is a TiAlN-coated version, which is more resistant to high temperatures and wear.

Special versions: guardrail, bit connection and cable gland

Some special versions of the Phantom Ergo-Step are also available. For example, there is a variant for drilling holes in crash barriers, equipped with a stop that prevents the drill from slipping through. This saves time and prevents damage. There is also a version with bit connection, suitable for use in an impact screwdriver: simply click it in and use it immediately. For electricians there is a special cable gland version, which allows easy drilling of holes for metric feed-through sizes of cable glands.

Complete sets from 4 to 30 mm

Standardly, the drills are equipped with a three-flat shank for optimum grip. The improved Phantom Ergo-Step stepped plate drills are available in sets, both TiN- and TiAlN-coated. For companies that work a lot with stainless steel, Phantom offers a complete set of HSS Ergo-Step plate drills with TiAlN coating. This coating has been specially developed for machining difficult-to-machine materials. In a robust plastic cassette, you will find all the necessary drills for making perfectly round holes from 4 to 30 mm.
